1982 KZ250 CSR compatible starter motor? was created by crd
Working on getting the 1982 running. Starter motor's completely shot. I have a 1980 KZ250 that I'm using as a donor bike, but the starter's just a tad different, and it won't fit on the 1982.
Scrolling through ebay, I see a number of used starters for sale. It seems that the 1982 KZ250 CSR is not very common. Do any of you know whether other models have a compatible starter motor? I need to find something cheap -- which precludes me from buying a new/rebuilt one.
Appreciate any suggestions you might have.
Thanks,
Chris

You know, I'm going to go out there this weekend and pick up the project again, and see what I can do between the burnt out 1982 starter and the apparently okay 1980 starter. I put this thing down several months ago.
Problem with the current setup is that the electrical connection/knob/thingy on the two starters is in a different place, and the 1980 one won't fit right on the 1982. Perhaps if I disassemble them and do some switching around of parts, it'll work.

Go to Kawasaki.com and user info and then parts diagrams for your bike and find the starter. Once you click on the starter part number it will tell you what other bikes the part number is valid for.

Last time I tried to buy brushes for a Kaw starter, they were over $100, so I bailed. Maybe you can get them cheaper somewhere. If someone knows of a source please post it.

if the terminal is clocked in a different position, is it possible to remove the through bolts and rotate the housing 180 degrees?
