Speedometer quit today
19 Nov 2005 06:34
While i was driving home from work today the speedometer quit, the tachometer works still, the bike has 7,000 miles on it. The only thing I can think is maybe the cold and lack of lubrication. any suggestions on fixing the problem would be appreciated on this 1982 kz 750 csr m1 speedometer problem

There's a good chance it's just a broken speedo cable. Detach it at the speedo and at the front wheel and check it out.

Don't know much about the later model Kaws, but when my tach quit on my '76, it was because the drive cable came off. The knurl nut that holds the cabel to the tach just go loose, and the cable end came out.

I have had that happen on a 750 twin also, and of course it happened after dark in the middle of nowhere

It did brake about 2" up the cable, it could be worse I thought it was possibly the mechanism on the wheel itself. I am in the process of locateing a cable

Thats good news. Cables do break. They are easy to replace and relatively cheap. When mine went last year my local Kawa dealer had one in stock.
go to www.kawasaki.com
click on owner info then parts diagrams etc and keep going till you find a part #.

Bought my new speedometer cable from a local Kawasaki dealership. Memphis Police department still has Kawasaki KZ1000 police bikes on duty, which I benefit lots of parts that are interchangeable. New cable was $15.47 lots of parts for my 1982 KZ750 csr m1 in Memphis, Tn
