I bought two in 2007 and both were correct. I got them through my neighbor who got them from a racing supply place.

On Z1, KZ900 and KZ1000, under the points cover should be located either a leftside and rightside set of points or a leftside and rightside ignition module.

With a correctly installed rotor, the leftside points or leftside module triggers the leftside ignition coil (located underneath the fuel tank) which fires the outside sparkplugs #1 and #4, and the rightside points or rightside module triggers the rightside ignition coil (located underneath the fuel tank) which fires the inside sparkplugs #2 and #3.

The wire color is of course immaterial so long as it connects to the correct ignition coil. But having correct codes in the installation instructions would indeed save some confusion and aggravation.

On some bike models, the ignition coil roles are reversed so that leftside ignition coil fires the inside sparkplugs #2 and #3 and the rightside ignition coil fires the outside sparkplugs #1 and #4.

Sorry if this is all duplicative information. :)

I remember when I did mine 14 years ago I had the same problem and was stressed out thought I had followed the instructions wrong until my neighbor veteran Kaw man told me I installed everything correctly but that it was wrong because the instructions were backward and five minutes later I got her going. Still in the back of my mind I was worried that something wasn't right. I am glad they made sure to write the instructions and color code the wires correctly finally.

Well said.

This is duplicative, but should be duplicated often since the question arises often! :)
