Electronic ignition
12 Aug 2026 06:54
I have a 1977 KZ650 that’s a bugger to start when cold, once warm starts straight away no problem.
have been advised to fit electronic ignition but the problem I have is that my points mounting plate measures 65mm diameter but both types of stator plate that I have seen for DYNA & Boyer Bransden electronic ignition measure 95mm diameter

you may double check your timing unless you just want to buy an electronic ignition which is perfectly fine.
If your ignition is good, try covering half of the carburetor intake with tape.
You may just need less air on startup.
Also, pull your plugs if you can't get it started you may be flooding the cylinders with gas.
