Will come on with brake actuation, lets you know lamp is working, on all the time or flashing indicates lamp failure, works in tandem with low fuel indicator dimmer glow, electrical gizmo under seat, plugs into unit on right side of tank, if using led brake lamp, need resistor in parallel with lamp as unit is looking for lamp resistance

on my 1981 kz650-H1 csr. the brake stop lamp illuminates whenever the brakes are applied. this tells you the brake light is working. a safety feature to minimize getting rear ended. if the brake light bulb is defective, the brake stop lamp flashes. the om has a description of its functionality.

Thanks ever so much for clarifying this at least it won’t be a shock when I see it come on in future.
As I’ve not been an owner very long I’m sure I’ll be on here again for advice sometime soon.
Very helpful and knowledgeable bunch on this forum should save me a fair amount of head scratching 👍

Hey Glockers1963 (and others),
The answers to many questions are model and year specific. One way to avoid constantly retyping that information is to put it in the signature line of your posts, that way it will always automatically appear in each of your posts. I just posted the instructions in the About the Site forum.
Happy KZ-ing.
P.S. There are quite a few factory service manuals and owner's manuals posted in the Filebase.

Re: Stop lamp
01 Aug 2026 07:30 - 01 Aug 2026 07:30but it should be a shock if the stop lamp does not come on when braking. ha ha. this tells you something is amiss in the brake light circuit. stop lamp bulb. brake light switches. outage switch. ground. etc. Thanks ever so much for clarifying this at least it won’t be a shock when I see it come on in future...
