KZ1000a2 dynatech electronic ignition and (two) ohm coils

Has anyone figured out how to use the dynatech 2 ohm coils? I can assure you that the stock electrical system will overheat in about 5 minutes at 3000 rpm.  I have figured it out and no issues today but I would love to hear if anyone else has done it or has some suggestions that would save me from learning more lessons.

I'm not sure what dyna ignition you bought, but I do know that the Dyna S needs 3.- 5-5 ohm coils.  If you have 2.0 ohm, you can add a ballast resistor to increase to a proper level.

Dyna 2000. No points or anything anymore. Yea, i thought about that but I didnt know how many watts I needed so I just ran my own power circuit to the ignition coils and then an automotive relay to handle the power.

Why did you go to 2.0 ohm coils (Dyna 2000 will work with stock 3-4 ohm coils) with a system voltage (when running) close to 14v these coils will draw 7amps each (14/2=7) so when both coils are charging that's 14amps on a system that only has an output of 18-20amps for everything on the electrical system. What size cable have you used from the battery through the relay to the coils (should be 14awg/2.5mm as a minimum for a constant load of 14amps)

It wasnt intentional and I couldn’t return them. They will run on the stock electrical system when you are sitting at idle. But ride at 3k for a little while and the stock system will burn up or overheat. I went to 10awg (what I had) and an 80amp waterproof automotive relay. It runs very well now.

"That will get it done" I assume upgrading the cabling was the solution referred to in your original post ?

yea, the whole parallel circuit being controlled by the original circuit was what I did. But like with anything, you solve one problem and it creates another one. I was curious if anyone could save me the hassle of discovering them for myself. The modifications to the factory circuit shouldn’t harm any of the remaining factory circuits and the new circuit is on a separate fuse and relay. Maybe I should remove the 20 amp factory fuse and measure the actual current use that is remaining and size the fuse based on that. New wires are ran down the same harness route to the same location where the factory wiring ends/begins. Marine cullet connectors on everything so it’s waterproof. All high temp silicone insulation….

Sounds like you have done "a proper job" so no it won't cause any issues with the original wiring (I'm guessing the original coil feed now switches the relay ?) Since the largest "single load" (the coils) has been removed from the main fuse so you could go down to 15amps but the original 20amp shouldn't cause any issues
