Electrical issue....engine shut off
31 Aug 2025 11:26 - 31 Aug 2025 13:16
I have an Electrical problem on my KZ900. I was riding and the engine stop running....just like turning the key to off and no power anywhere.
I am green with electrical system except, I knew that the blue connector is broken and came comme loose. So after the bike stalled the firs time, I pushed back the blue connector and the power came back and I kept riding.
Later on, the motor turn Off an On 2-3 time and die. I pushed the blue connector again but no luck. The battery is full charge at 13 volts. The fuse is ok. I have disconetted the blue plug and I have no voltage on any wire.
Where do you think that issue came from ?
So far, i checked the switch at on, the battery ground and the fuse. That ok
I wodering when the current went On and Off few time it must have blew something ??

Have you pulled the plug out to see if the terminals are burnt ?

If my KZ could have talked, he would have surely told me that a previous owner had this problem and that he was too cheap to repair it properly. I had no power at the fuse box, so I removed the brown connector and I noticed that the connection of the white wire had been repaired by soldering and that it seemed to have overheated. I cleaned the contacts, put dielectric grease and tightened the connection.
And there you go, it's fixed as well as the blinking which was slow.
Question: Can I replace the connector or do I have to replace the harness?
Thanks Wookie for your help ! It is very much appreciated. Have a nice day.

Re: Electrical issue....engine shut off
01 Sep 2025 07:17You can replace the connectors (others will be able to advise where to get the pins) and to be a permanent repair you should. It is best to replace all pins in the multiplug as once you cut the old one off the wire will be a little shorter than the rest which would put it under tension. I like to "tin" the ends of the wires with a soldering iron before crimping the new pins on (this "seals" the end of the cable)If my KZ could have talked, he would have surely told me that a previous owner had this problem and that he was too cheap to repair it properly. Since I have no power at the fuse box, I removed the brown connector and I noticed that the connection of the white wire had been repaired by soldering and that it seemed to have overheated.
