KZ 900 generator wires
18 Aug 2025 11:48
Hi All, i am repairing the oil leak into the generator case caused by the old rubber grommet on my 1976 KZ900 A4, took everything apart, cut the 3 wires coming from the stator and marked them for re-assembly, in cleaning around the area i mistakenly wiped the markings off the 3 wires coming from the windings, the cloth wrapping the wires are so soaked in oil i cannot identify the pink from the yellow from the sky blue !!!! under the cloth they all appear to be white plastic ? does it matter which wires connect back to the other side? and if so, is it possible to identify them? picture of stator attached and thank you

To the best of my knowledge (unless someone knows different) it doesn't matter. It's a star configuration and they are all joined at the other end

Like wookie said, orientation doesn't matter. Noteworthy though, do you have soldering skills? I always replace the Complete wire where those 3 have little cloth covers. They are originally soldered in a tube you'll see if you pull those little covers back. This way you will have clean insulation going thru the new grommet.

Re: KZ 900 generator wires
20 Aug 2025 05:28Best to use "heat resistant" sleeving on these wires so the insulation doesn't bake and start cracking. Cracked insulation allows moisture in which starts to corrode the wires inside the insulationkawikid post=916247 userid=16816Thank you both, that is great news, yes i am planning on replacing the wires and soldering them back to the joint on that stator side

A couple examples, one already unsoldered and another finished. I always run them full length to the Blue plug but sometimes person's don't know how to remove the terminals?
Hope it Helps.
