The starter on my Uncle's KZ750 is shot and it takes a lot of effort to kick it. Going through my Uncle's things (he has dementia now and has given me a lot of property including his bike collection) I noticed that he has a spare starter gear. Not sure why he never put it in. Does this look usable or is it worn out too?

As long as the clutch locks before the rollers reach the end of their travel it should be fine

Best to read the FSM in the file base and decide if it’s within your skill set (I don’t know this motor)

Knowing just enough to be dangerous!! Seems that crankshaft gear has just a bushing, no needle bearing like most of those other similar designs? This could explain a LOT when it comes to the seemingly common issue with these 750B's locking-up and spinning the reduction starter. Thanks For the Pics Alex, Always learning!! Have noted the same with the tower head camchain sprocket on the CB450-500's. Exactly the same sprocket used on the Z1 thru 1980 but..with a bushing not needle bearings.

Curious mind being curious, looked it up. Yup, no bearing, just that pressed-in sleeve bushing. It oils thru a hole below bush on crankshaft end, fed thru the engine case shells of the journals.
