Rewound fuel sending unit : works!
09 May 2025 16:25
Just finished rewinding and testing the fuel sending unit on my KZ.
Used 36g Kanthal.
I still have to clean it to get the full to work properly.
but! It shows 3/4 for a full tank, and empty a little early.

I've done a bit of fiddling with fuel senders.
What resistance range are your windings showing?
My J fuel senders range is 0 amps for full and 100 amps for empty.

Not the Amps value Warren, the Ohm reading is the real value for the fuel sending unit, and without any Voltage supply connected.....

It's OHMs. If AMPS it would become a heater. I had to repair this one.

Doh! Been messing with dead gel batteries all day. Got amps on the brain at the moment.

@TexasKZ
can do!
didn't think of it in the moment. Wanted to get it all back together as wife and kids wanted badly to ride this past weekend. It's supposed to rain here, all this week. So i can take it back out and get some pics and do a write up.
I have to get some pics of how I got my speedometer accurate again, too.
@Warren3200gt
On the winding itself, I get between about 3 ohms at full, and 110 at empty. But I know the small bit of brass spring behind the wiper is dirty and raising everything by about 15 ohms. I have to open the case and clean it well. I don't think the wiring I have is the same gage as stock. Visually, I have less wraps. Hoping that translates to longer service life as it might make it slower to wear through.
