Ignition Coil By-Pass Trigger location on a KZ750H2
18 Apr 2025 22:19
So I am working on installing the wiredgeorge ignition coil bypass mod. The documentation that wiredgeorge provided for the trigger wire does not match my 1981 KZ740H2. I am not finding a connector above my valve cover with the yellow/red wire mentioned in the documentation. Can someone that has done this be able to help me locate my trigger wire? Thanks for reading.

Wire colours are different for different bikes.
The coils each have two wires from them. Of the four coil wires two will be the same colour and go into a double bullet connector. Those two are the power to the coils.
The other two will be two different colours, likely green and black. These two are the pulse ignition wires from the ignition plate.
This is what you need to achieve.

the igniter connectors are probably near the battery box. possibly under the battery. there's a red power wire from the RH handlebar control to the ignition coils. that connector is probably in the headlight bucket.

I`m guessing our 750 H2 wiring is same wiring as my 750E1.
Remove the gas tank and follow the follow the RH switch mini harness to where it connects with the main harness.
You can see the connector on the right in the pic below
As far as I can remember I cut the red wire on the main harness side of the connector and ran and ran wire to the relay and then wire from relay to the coil side of the cut
This is what you have
And this is what you want
Good luck

So my kill switch/trigger wire might be in my headlight and NOT above the valve cover? Power wire, ground, and NEW red coil wires were easy (since they come of the relay). Trigger I am not finding. I do have the colored wiring diagram I have been trying to use to locate it on the bike. Looking at the diagram the kill switch is a YELLOW wire and not a YELLOW/RED wire.

What colour are the positive supply wires to the coils ( these are your trigger - there should be a junction where the “ two become one”)

NO, Yellow is the 12 V ignition input to the Kill switch, you have to connect to the (kill) switched 12 V ignition output = yellow/red wire!!!

19 Apr 2025 11:37Left coil is red and green and right is red and black. I already made the new red wires which come off the relay. I only need to hook up the trigger which is what I can’t find. What colour are the positive supply wires to the coils ( these are your trigger - there should be a junction where the “ two become one”)

19 Apr 2025 11:41Disconnect the two red wires from the coils, follow them back until they join to a single red wire from the kill switch - this is then your trigger wireLeft coil is red and green and right is red and black. 19 Apr 2025 12:57 - 19 Apr 2025 12:59And that's the issue. The wires disappear into the heavily taped factory wire loom. I would need to start slicing the tape around the wire loom and that makes me extremely nervous considering the age.Disconnect the two red wires from the coils, follow them back until they join to a single red wire from the kill switch - this is then your trigger wireLeft coil is red and green and right is red and black. Re: Ignition Coil By-Pass Trigger location on a KZ750H2
19 Apr 2025 14:09Went to the garage and had another look at the bike. I found a yelloe/red wire, but is part of a 6 pin connector behind the headlight. I also grabbed a pick of where the current primary coil connection come out of the wire loom. See images. No problem - insulate one of the reds from the coils and use the other as your triggerAnd that's the issue. The wires disappear into the heavily taped factory wire loom.
