Some one  with an old KZ1000 may have done it already and will pitch in but.....in general;.

The Shindengen SH775 is an series integrated rectifier/regulator,..... all together, and I believe the KZ1000 of that vintage had separate rectifier and regulator,

....................still, the SH775 only needs a 3 phase alternator input, which I understand that KZ1K has( 3 wires).   And the Output simply goes to Battery (2 wires).....and it should work, ........but you may have to sort out the wiring between old rectifier and regulator,....and/or remove.   It just wouldn't be plug and play, as in newer models.    The other issue will be the connectors, (plugs)..you may have to make them to match the SH775's

This is how I do it.  Bypass the factory wiring to the extent possible.

BTW, I buy, test, then resell used SH775's.  There are a lot of fakes in the marketplace, so you gotta pay attention and get a proper one.

Hi Greg,

I have two.  One, looks near new, and the second, that has been bead blasted, because there was some corrosion.  The second has a somewhat mottled appearance to the finish, where the corrosion was removed.

Clean unit is $55 and the blasted unit $45, + $10 shipping in the USA.

Have a question about this reg , I have installed one on my project bike a few weeks ago and did some testing  today , From what I understand  they are approx. 14.2 vdc +/- .5 volts, So far what I am  getting is 13 vdc at idle and 13.2 at 4000 rpm . I have  a new stator from electro sport listed as heavy duty, stator resistance is good at .9 ohms and voltage 50 vac  at 4000 rpms , revving past 4000 keeps climbing vac. no shorts to ground . Harness is new so connectors new , What kind of voltages are you guys getting , The unit i have is the sh775 BA , according to what I've found online vdc should be around 14.2 +/- .5 .
IOne thing I was wondering I am running dyna 2000 not sure is that would have an effect as to load . Or bought it used maybe its got a problem , any way just curious to what voltage you guys are getting , Thanks

You should have around 14.2 - 14.5v @ 4000 rpm. Yours looks like it isn't charging. I would check the ground (connect a voltmeter black lead to battery neg, red lead to black wire from reg. Anything more than 0.3v suggests a bad ground) if that's OK it looks like the R/R is faulty
PS: Also check voltage at the red wire coming out of the R/R (fault could be between the R/R and the battery)

Your output is too low.  I've tested at least two dozen SH775's and if your stator is strong, the wiring good, and the battery properly charged, you should get 14.4-14.5 VDC across the battery at 5000 rpm.  Interestingly, if the battery is discharged, the charging will be 14.0 VDC, not 14.5.  I'm not sure why, though.

Note the comment about the wiring.  Bypass the factory R/R hook up, and match my diagram above.

Oh, and I've never seen a bad SH775.  I've seen some with broken plastic connectors.  Aluminum back plates that fall off.  But never one that didn't function properly.  They are as robust as a stone outhouse.
