Harness routing
23 Jan 2025 17:16 - 23 Jan 2025 17:46
Hi All
I am trying to figure out where the harness leaves the frame to go into the headlight on my 81 KZ1000 LTD. Does it exit the frame above the horns or under the horns.
Thank you so much for the help!

Can’t help but I’ll be following. I have an 81 CRS1000 and removed the harness because it looked like it was routed incorrectly by the OP. I didn’t take photos of the route. By just seeing photos of other bikes I’m sure now the routing was correct but I can’t remember the route
. Harness has been repaired and looking to put the bike together this spring.

I don't know. but below the horns doesn't sound right. an internet image search should help. looks like above the horns which are lower than the triple tree. the wiring would need to be well clear of the engine and exhaust pipes.

Scour all the pictures in the fsm. Often details like this can be seen in the picture topics background.

I install most harnesses along the left side of the main frame, then exit above or below the fuel tank bungs. Don't be afraid of the gas tank tunnel, there's plenty of room in there. From there I head towards the headlamp between the upper and lower triple clamp, paying attention to cable routing along the way. I wouldn't route any of the main harness through that lower section if you can help it.

Thanks everyone for the information, Especially TexasKZ! As soon as I get done making the smog block off plates I will be able to get those wires back wher they belong.
