'80 KZ650 Ignition Coils
13 Jan 2025 22:30
Hello,
So I have the original ignition coils on my bike. They worked fine until a few months ago where my electric starter stopped. I learned how to use the kickstart and thought little of it until I started taking the bike apart for some winter cleaning and found my coils were cracked lengthwise. Not sure if this is repairable or not and not sure where I should go from here.
I have not taken them off and I did replace the sparks as well as the battery and recharge system this year, also as I said the bike starts with the kickstart, the electric start is just more convenient when in traffic if I slip up and stall.
If anyone has some pointers, please let me know! I could use some guidance on the switch and coils

If the coils are cracked then "failure" is waiting around the corner as moisture will get in. When you say the elec start doesn't work what are the symptoms ?

It simply no longer makes any sign of life, no sound of turn over, nothing.

Not claiming I have the answer for you but your starter system should look something like this pic. There maybe more switches or connections but it will be much the same.
Your task is to figure out what is not working?
