Educate me - KZ900-A4 Horn Brackets
04 Jan 2025 13:55 - 04 Jan 2025 14:23
So I need some education. Reinstalling my factory horn after rewire and cleaning, I notice my factory bracket looked a but ratty. It appeared to be multiple pieces, like a leaf spring and one layer had appeared to be broken. So I found NOS stock on Ebay, and when it showed, it appeared to be only one thin layer.
So my questions are:
- Is it supposed to be multiple layers? I assume this keeps it from acoustically grounding out instead of a rubber bushing like on more modern bikes.
- How many layers are there supposed to be?
- Does anyone know if you were to buy one from Mama Kawi back in the day, was it a complete set of plates, or just individual?
Any help would be appreciated.

Original horns had multiple brackets stacked together. Early z1 maybe had 2or3 (not sure) but had a tendency to crack so the later ones had extra brackets installed. All the after market horns use a 1 piece thick bracket.

Thanks for that insight.
4 Layers appear to be the thickness of mine, including the cracked one. PN for the bracket I found was 27038-002 which appears to simply be one layer.

I will not be able to educate you on the 900 machines. Though I do feel like their are others here you can. Not sure it means anything but I have access to a parts list for the 1976 KZ900 that indicates the following as a part number for the horn 27003-065 the pic in the list shows the horn with a single bracket on it.

That part no for the horn may look like one bracket but it would have been a stacked one. I normally run 3 or 4 brackets on the stock horn and just keep an eye on the cracking. Most of my bikes have an aftermarket horn. Those brackets can be found just have to keep an eye on ebay.

Well that is where my question came from. Ebay vendor had NOS stock they purchased from a Kawi dealer under the PN I provided. The bracket in the photo was hard to tell thickness, so I ordered one. When it arrived, it appeared to be one ‘leaf’. I reached out to the seller and asked some questions, and they say they had gotten 10 of these from the dealer with that PN on the bag.
So maybe due to the differences in years, they sell the leafs and you build the pack size you need.
