.                                                                                       Good Morning, pics from temp install of mid 80’s zx750 ignition in my 81 650, tried out too see if it worked, started right up, eliminates mech advance, all kaw parts, installed on z1 for about 2 years, from a zx1100, works well

Nice. How about providing a more detailed write up with pictures so that others can easily replicate what you have done?
Do the newer systems have an ignition curve similar to the KZ curves?

Just some more info, parts needed, old harness from 83 to 85 or later zx550, 750, or 1100, to secure the 10 pin plug for igniter (don’t really need it, just makes it easier, can be hard wired without, have pic of pin assignments) pulsing coils from 550 or 750 with bracket, rotor, (there are differences, which might alter advance?) I altered the igniter output wiring to match the 650 coil and power feeds( new 4 pin plug), all colors are pretty much standard for what Kaw uses for the Inductive ignitions, so easy to match, If your changing from points, the ignition wiring you pull from the harness will have coil feeds an 12v+ and-, rotor need a 8m x 40 0r 45 bolt, does clear the oil pressure switch, that wire (blue/red needs the be added to the inductor harness, pics to follow schematic only bottom half applies to this, pin assignments, courtesy Achim on the classik forum, and Rangeroy how did you make out with this?  what  I have up is a temp install, also  the advance on 650 is about 10 to 36 degrees the 750 from the electronic advance is 10 to 40 at 3900rpm for both,  checked the z1 vs 1100 are same, thanks, got a lot of years doing electrical stuff (just got 50yr IBEWpin) so I hope this is not too confusing

Hi I had no problems at all after fitting, on the igniter I used there is a brown/white wire that you run straight to earth if you dont have a side stand cut out fitted.

Thanks for this guys, my igniter on my 82 1000 is scrap and I was looking for a solution. I have ordered all the required parts (I think) but it will be a while before I can let you know if it was a success. One thing I would point out is that the 1100 trigger 21007-1067 is intended for a "J" motor and the pick up coils are at 10:00 and 4:00 (see below diagram) as opposed to the earlier and smaller engines which are at 3:00 and 9:00 so if you are using the coil plate shown you will need to re-drill it so it can move clockwise approx30 degrees. I have ordered a 1100A2 ignition housing, trigger and CDI unit and some Chineseium pick ups for a GPZ900R (A2 picks are expensive) I hope this works out as all in it has cost approx $120 so a bargain potentially (Dyna-S in the UK is $220)

Wookie, wondered why the timing marks on the 1100 rotor were about 30degrees different, didn’t pay attention to it before, the mounting plate for the smaller engines will only fit them, thick cast alum. with threaded nubs for the coils, can’t be shifted, and on the 650 I had to lengthen the top mounting hole a bit to the right to get 3 screws in, the bottom 2 align it properly, on the larger motors the 1100A2 housing is needed, as the coils mount directly to it, if your crank is the same as the 1100 the original seal will work, Z1 is smaller, hence new seal, number on rotor should match last 4 on ignitor, on Z1 ignition cover from later 1000 was needed, it is deeper, as was needed on the 650,  2ohm coils used, found some used tek coils on ebay. This was all described buried in a rebuild thread on the classik forum, in one of Achim’s rebuilds, was quite interesting, your project is very interesting, good luck

whats wrong with your igniter?
the wiring has hardened and cracked which has allowed the wires inside to corrode at the point where they enter the unit ( and I like the idea of moving away from mechanical advance and retard)

I have a 1100A2 unit 21119-1071 on the way (curve is almost identical to my 1000K) as it's basically the same motor just 100cc smaller (but I also have an A2 block so mine will also be 1100 when done)

good morning, just a bit more info, and a follow up on 650 install, short road test was good, gotta find a shiny cover, or take paint off this one, got starter clutch issues, but rounding up parts for that, not a lot off real estate under right cover with fuse block, and a sh775 tucked under there (thanks Mr. Nessism) just a bit of a rat bike not pretty but a functional test bed and hobby
