Quick question on coils
09 Sep 2023 08:42
May sound silly, but are coils from a lets say a goldwing or from a suzuki, or yamaha, compatible with Kawasaki given that the primary and secondary readings are within specs?

FWIW. Someone on another vintage forum installed the coils from a Buick Grand National. I think a 1987 model.
Below are a couple of quotes that I saved, but I don't have any specific information. he passed away several years ago.
"My very fast ELR has Grand National coils, as does my fast CB1100, as does my slow 79 CB750F."
"Buick, six cylinder, black, world's fastest living room, adapt the little wires to your bike."

Yeah, you can run all sorts of stuff.
I ran a 1986-2003 GM DIS coil for awhile.
As well as running a CDI ignition for a scooter (the advance curve was off though).
Now, I run an old used Honda Gold Wing GL1500 Tek coil and Lou's HEI ignition module.

When I was still a young lad, we hung Bosch blue coils on the front down tubes of the Yamaha RD 350/400s. Cool mod, everybody was doing it! We were sooo cool!
Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!
