The 1979 should be factory electronic ignition. What is the ohms of your coils, if your using the original coils the ohms might be to low for points.

Depends which model Mikaw, Z1000a1 to a3 were still running points and condensers.
And yes, hydrolazer the Chinese replacement parts are absolutely useless and not worth buying let alone fitting unless you want to be left stranded by the roadside.
If it's an unused show pony for authenticity the fit them but if you actually want to use the bike then you'll need to fit an electronic system unless you can find original genuine parts.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

I may have a set of OEM points.  Will check later today.  But they should still be available through KHI or Partzilla.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Partzilla shows the points, but not the condenser, still available.

www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motor...r-rectifier-77-78-a1

CMS shows both, though the price of shipping may be prohibitive, and they also show some aftermarket alternatives, though I have no idea where those are made or what quality they may be.

Take a step back, no rush, you need to pull all the plugs (makes it easier to manually turn the engine over). Put a 17mm wrench on the nut on the points end of the crankshaft. Cover the #1 plug hole with your thumb and turn the engine over till you feel pressure trying to push your thumb off the plug hole. Now your on the compression stroke, but before top dead center. Slowly continue to turn the engine till the line cast in the inner points cover align with “T” on the advancer. Now you know your top dead center on the compression stroke. Molded into the black rotor of the DynaTek ignition is a very small magnetic. It needs to be pointed toward the rear crescent shaped pickup. That pickup is 1-4 trigger, the wire from the DynaTek that has the black sleeve over it needs to go ti the coil mounted on the left of the frame that is connected to plugs 1-4. Confirm this and report back.
