Hello fellow kz enjoyers!

New to the forum, but i hope someone can help me out with a issue i am trying to resolve.

I have been working on a custom quad powerd by a kz250 ltd.

I need to make a wiring loom just for the engine.

I have figured out that i need a cdi with code: J4T971

I have orderd this new from CAMO.

But i am struggling a little bit on how to wire this cdi.

The pinout from the cdi is 5 wires.

I have:

Pickup greenPickup redCool blueCoil blackIgnition yellowIgnition yellowIgnition light green
i have fully wired the yellow wires, and the neutral switchBut can't seem to figure out how to wire the cdi.

And help would be appreciated to make a bare bone wiring loom
Kind regards!

Rica

No installation instructions?  I looked on the CARMO USA site but didn't see anything.
What ignition does the engine have? yours may have points.
The carmo unit is probably meant to replace the igniter in an electronic ignition.

ps: there might be a youtube video.

From what I read about it that it is a direct plug into the system on the bike.  I found several locations selling it and one noted that the maker did not provide a pin out info.  I do not have access to a wiring diagram for the 81,82,or 83 250 ltd or csr.  I would think it may help figure out what the pin outs are for what.

yeah the cdi is supposed to be used as a direct replacment, but seeing my situation i need to make it work.

ignition is without pointer :) already checked it as far as i could.

and yeah that picture definitly helps wookie58! any chance you could get it with some more details (higher resolution?)

It would appear that some or the wire colors appear to match the pic that wookie posted. Not sure what that means, but looks like you need to find which yellow lead is power and which is ground.  Something that may help is the engine # stamped on it to learn which year and model the engine began its life as. Not sure if there are any differences between the years or models that came stock with this type of system. I would suggest attempting to find wiring diagrams for the 81,82 and 83 250 single ltd or csr models. As I posted I do not have access to any of the years or models. Or a shop manual for them, as it might provide more info on the subject.
