Points and Ignition Timing - $425

Who here has changed their own points and all thats involved in it, including timing? A local shop said, for me to have the points changed on my 77 K750 TWIN, it would be $425. Im thinking thats kind of ridiculous?

That sounds like a "we don't want the job" price !! take your time and follow the manual and you should be fine

It really is pretty straightforward, just make sure the washers and insulators on the mounting screws go back in the right order. You can set the gap with feeler gauges if you don't have a dwell meter and set the static timing with a testlight or voltmeter.

Setting dwell and timing is not difficult. If you were near me, I would do it and teach you how, for $100 and a case of beer. What is your location. Maybe someone near you will even under bid me.

Nothing wrong with points and condensers but if you are ready to change them....consider a Dyna pickup.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Do the Dyna once and you're done for the life of the bike
So cost payback is great compared to periodic  point adjustment or replacement by a shop

Do I have to have a dyna coil as well?

You can use the standard coil as long as the resistance is approx 3 - 4 ohms which I believe it is
