Coil wiring
01 Sep 2022 12:57 - 02 Sep 2022 07:09
So trying to figure out what goes where on this damn thing. I don't believe the previous owner had this wired up correctly at all. Any tips on where these belong and how the coils are meant to be wired? It's an 81 kz305. Also, if I have the two blue wires connected in the last photo the headlight stays on. Is there a switch for the headlight that I haven't found?

Yes. Previous owners are the lowest form of life on the entire WWW
The coils should each have one wire (might even be the same color AND the same wire!) connected to what is the + side of the coils. Each one, or perhaps a jumper from one to the other... It's really all the same thing. The other side of the coil (the - minus, if you will) is coming from the ignition device that's creating the actual FIRE NOW signal, whether it's a Dyna, points or other OEM device. easy peasey!

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

Also... we have this pretty cool data base of info at our fingers
look at www.kzrider.com/filebase?task=download.send&id=266&catid=46&m=0
It looks like a yellow/orange striped wire is the hot from the ignition switch and the solid yellow goes to the left side coil and the black goes to the right side coil.

Headlight. On most KZs the headlight is on when the ignition switch is ON.

Re: Coil wiring
02 Sep 2022 05:56I think it is "market" dependent, in the UK we have the 2 position switch "PO" and "On" as a separate sidelight/marker light is an MOT requirementHeadlight. On most KZs the headlight is on when the ignition switch is ON.
