Smart People,

I'm converting my 81 GPZ1100 battery box/electrical mounting panels to the J model parts.   This cleans up the loose ends and makes for a far better and more reliable installation after removal of the fuel injection system.  I have gone over the parts breakout on the storefronts, but they don't show where some of the parts mount.  I can sorta guess, but a photo of it all put together would help a lot. I don't have a shop manual for a KZ1000J only the GPZ...no joy there.  Any help is much appreciated.  I promise to write up a how to for it.

Thanks

Thanks to all for the info!   I’ve been able to mockup most of the pieces.  Waiting for some used parts from flee bay to come in.  Going to be a much cleaner install.   Only issue a extension needs to be made from the J style fuse box to the main bus of about 6 inch.

I too want to do exactly the same to my B1. I have the two connector "holder" brackets, but haven't really tried to fit them yet... still giving it a coat of "looking-at"... i.e. procrastinating!
I also want to fit a 1000j airbox (which finally arrived from Ebay after 5 months) but the B1 does not have mounting points for the "L" shaped brackets that "slide" into the back of the airbox. Some pics of what you do would be most appreciated.

I have finished developing the ignition switch cover... after the 4th design change, I'm satisfied with the result...

That center console looks great, you nailed it.   I will certainly document how I convert to the j box.   I can say thus far the only real issue is the fuse box lead being about 6 to 10 inches short.  I’m making an extension by just graphing on more thick gauge wire to handle the amps.   Once I have all the bits and pieces I’ll mark out the frame mounting points and fab up some from some mild steal.  Then try and weld them on myself.  If that doesn’t pan out I’ve thought of a couple other mounting methods less intrusive.  I’ve been wanting to do this conversion for a while, it just looks so much better than the old box.  One piece I still need is the tool bag carrier.  Can’t find that anywhere.

Thanks!
Looking forward to seeing your progress.
I have made preliminary measurements of the frame, where the tool tray "hangs", and should have a 3D model drawn up in a week or 3. I had good success with design and print of the tool tray for my GPz550D1, and will gladly share the 3D print files.

Dang are we twins or something….I’m doing a frame off on a 81GPZ550 as well, I’m finishing up the engine now, just painted the case’s.  I also received a set of porting bits and will complete a port and polish on the head hopefully this week.  I swapped out the stock cams for a late model set which  has more duration.   Too many projects at once! :)   I spend years finding all the parts for the 550, of course that’s half the fun!   Mine was a $250.00 rescue and in very sad and incomplete shape.  But, I have every part, down to the last washer, either new or refurbed.

Not sure the shape of your seat cover on the 550, but I sent mine to a company out of Thailand, and they made an exact copy of it, it’s perfect.  I think they are PitStop or something on eBay.  Very nice and honest people.

GPz's and R's are "my thing" ... they have just that little bit extra, in my opinion.
I bought the seat cover from Z1, and, I am really impressed.
It looks identical to the original, right down to the texture too!

I've also printed a document box,

and the cover that holds the air-filter element.

Well I have her all done with my semi perm mounting solution using bands to hold the box in place.  When I’m sure the location and any other wiring changes don’t need to be done I’ll fab the brackets and weld them in place.

One piece one the box has me baffled, on the left side of the box are two brackets that mount one on top the other.  The only thing that mounts on it is the starter solenoid..that’s it.

All the electrical connector blocks locate in it.  Download a workshop manual.
