undefined Hi, I currently have an ‘83 gpz550 and a ‘78 kz750 twin. Found a listing for a 1984 kz750 k2 for $500 that doesn’t spark. I’m wanting a bike I can tinker on to teach myself the mechanics, and to have for practice rides.
1) How difficult is it to find used, relatively inexpensive parts for the k2?
2) Can parts cross over to non-canada models - thinking about ease of future resale)? and
3) Is the k2 enough like like typical versions that the skill could translate to the models I own? (I do know it uses a belt drive so I’m curious to see what that’s like.)

Recommend or steer clear? TIA.

If you are just looking to tinker, I suggest working to advance the maintenance on your current bikes.  Things like tearing down the brake system and cleaning out the sludge, then rebuilding with fresh seals and brake lines.  Same for the carbs; teardown and replace all the O-rings and gaskets.  Adjust valves.  Grease swingarm bearings and steering head bearings.  Tons of stuff to do on old bikes like our KZ's.  Of course, that 750 K2 would be a nice add.  I'd buy it for the price if the cosmetics are good.  Fixing mechanical stuff it typically the easy part.  It's making the bike look decent that's the challenge.  

I would look into a replacement belt beforehand.  This is a problem for the KZ440 Belt, but maybe not be for the 750K since some of the Vulcan 500 models used the same belt, so there might be an affordable Gates or HD replacement.  Alternatively, chain drive conversion could be an option.

Chain drive conversion is really simple. Just use the sprockets and chain from a chain drive 750 twin. The only odd bit is the belt guard.
I agree with Nessism, but if you want the 750, there is no good reason not to buy it. Most of the parts are readily available.
