Ignition coil question

Ignition coil question was created by Claude.
We all know there are two coils; one for #1/4 and one for #2/3. So, if one coil fails, the engine will fire on the remaining pair of cylinders.
QUESTION: Is it possible for a coil to fail on only one cylinder? As like in an engine firing on three cylinders?

In such a case, I assume the culprit is probably more the spark plug, the cap or the wire but just to be sure, can it be the coil itself?

Thanks!

The coil itself can't fail on one cylinder, but the high tension leads and/or the cap can.  And don't forget the spark plug.

I guess the coil secondary terminal could be cracked and is arcing to ground.

Turn the lights out, grab a spray bottle of water and mist water around the coil and the spark plug wires.
If it's arcing then you'll witness a good lightning show.
You don't need much water.

I normally take an extra spark plug and put it on the suspected spark plug wire and lay it in the head bump the starter and see if that on archs
