I need more guidance from you folks. So, bought a new battery and after much discussion got(what I thought) correct battery. Even had old one with me! Finally got to filling and charging. Went to plug in, big sparks(major clue to those dumber than me) plugged anyway, turned key blew 20amp that feeds my dyna ignition. Now with old, but correct(has enough charge for testing purposes) battery connected, turn key, fuse pops. Did I cook my dyna?

go grab a bunch of 20 amp fuses.
disconnect the dyna.
put in a 20 amp fuse
turn on the bike
if the fuse pops it's something else
if the fuse doesn't pop, plug in the dyna
if it pops, it's the dyna

It could be your regulator/rectifier.
Those things don't like reversed battery leads.
Unplug that if the fuse pops without the dyna connected
then put in another fuse

Are you sure you hooked the wires up correctly to the battery? In other words the positive wire to the positive terminal and the negative wire to the negative terminal? Ed

Ed,
Rebreath doesn't quite come out and say it.
But they probably bought a battery that has the positive and negative terminals flipped. Without verifying the two batteries were the same, hooked it up and boom.
