Terminal Replacements - Kit from Amazon
07 Mar 2021 09:34
I just got a kit and some crimpers from Amazon to replace old, corroded, burnt, broken terminals on my KZ650. It is a serious game changer.
link here, super cheap, AND seems to be great so far.
kit www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07YCBDXWM/ref=...01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
crimpers www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MBB4RPA/ref=...01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Now what I need is the pin release tool for when I make a mistake......

You can make your own release pin tools out of cotter pins, just file one end to the size needed. Works very well as I have several different sizes I have made for different terminals.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

The kit is probably made in china. I'd check the quality before using it on a motorcycle.
I get most of my electrical stuff from CycleTerminal.com. The terminal pin extractor set is nice.
Everything I've gotten from there has been high quality. connectors, terminal pins, tools, etc.
Most items are made in Japan, USA or Europe.

You are better off sticking with the regular connectors like on the bike. The stuff from vintage connections and cycle terminals is what you want. Top quality. I used vintage connections and was impressed with their service.

I do electrical low voltage work for a living. I'm not scared of made in China as a lot of the stuff you guys are promoting above is still manufactured in China and packaged elsewhere. The terminals that come with this cheapo kit are actually pretty ok, recommending i stay with burned out cracked terminals is not good advise guys sorry but it isn't. I put dielectric in the terminals as well and tested resistance on all connectors prior to and after and the results were pretty dramatic. Not to mention a dead short on two terminals previous. I hear you on using cheap crap, these are cheap, but with a proper crimp and some common sense they are working out very well. Thansk for the cable cover link, that'll be helpful for sure.

The Chinese are geniuses when it comes to electrical stuff, otherwise they would be confused by how they wire stuff. The image below from Beijing is proof positive. :woohoo: Ed

The connectors I got from CycleTerminal appear to be high quality & are an exact match to the stock terminals as they plug right in, plus cycleterminal has some colored connectors. made in china stuff is often times a crapshoot. most everybody complains about china but don't do anything. I rebuilt our washing machine last summer then fixed the dryer after that & didn't buy a single chinese part.
ps: also fixed my bbq grill. no china parts. bought made in USA polyurethane jack pads (the cheap chinese pads on EB & amazon are crap). I have ChannelLock brand pliers >> Made in USA. my backpack was made in USA.
