By hardrockmine: I don't know why they did it but all my bikes have a double female brown connector near the headlight with no intended use. It shows on the Z1 circuit diagram.

The double female is probably for adding accessories & seems to be prevalent on models without an accessory fuse box (usually 70s models). Whenever there's an acc fusebox, there's usually a blue-white acc terminal at the headlight bucket & a black-white acc terminal under the LH side cover. That's the way it is on my 81 KZ650-CSR. .. An 81 550 is listed in your signature >> the 550 wiring diagrams I've seen don't show a brown wire w double female >> instead, they have a blue-white acc.

yes that nmay help thanks. Mine is a canadian model. papered as a 79 and the serial number on the stem is a 78. So... who knows. The brown coming off the ignition does get shorted to the white, when the key is on, then however after the 6 pin connector it becomes yellow. Which doesnt match up with the canadian schematic. Im also not getting power to the idiot lights, which im getting rid of anyway, most of them. but I want to get it all working as it should prior to deleting anything.

I dont have a fuel sensor anymore either, so I should short that out too I suppose.

The 550 is ridden by my wife, although I maintain it. My two Z1's and my 1980 KZ1000 all have the unused brown double female.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
