I cleaned up the wiring harness and labeled everything the best I could per the schematic. A few repairs are needed but not bad.

What should I do about the old Regulator / Rectifier used in 1974?

eBay old stock components all look as trash. I plan on running a lithium battery in a pan under the seat. Likely battery tender or anti-gravity.

The folks at the link below know a LOT about Kawasaki charging systems. It may be smart to contact them. Ed

If the place 650ed suggested doesn't work out you might try

ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/Rectifier-R...um-Compatible-14_320

They make Regulator/Rectifier that retrofit older bikes and work with Lithium Batteries.

The important things to note are that your alternator uses a field coil. So you need a regulator designed to control field coil (through the green wire) in order to regulate the voltage. The field coil is controlled on its positive side (rather than its ground side like in some other designs).
The stator is 3-phase so you need a 3-phase rectifier if you are planning on replacing that too.

Like Ed said, usually I just recommend people get one from OregonMotorcycleParts.com (they already know all of the above info), but I don't know if they are precise enough for lithium batteries. They might be able to tell you on the phone.

As a matter of fact, I've dealt with Rick's motorsports before. They have great service and are nearby in NH. They have an EE there that actually likes to help people and he doesn't talk down neither. Young kid too. Thanks for the advice. The above link brought me to a nice product. I used standard reg / rect on my 82 nighthawk running a lithium battery. it system charges @14.4
