Good day Gents, My "79" 1000 st has started giving incorrect speedo readings. Indicates 70 when in reality only doing 45. Any ideas as to what is going on?

The only thing I can imagine that would cause a sudden high reading would be that the damper fluid has somehow left the building, or something has come loose allowing the magnets to rub each other.
