Spark plug wires was created by dpivas7
Welp, I found the gremlin in my 1984 GPz550. The spark plug wire on cylinder 4 has deteriorated and is arcing on the outside of the engine causing the stumble. Luckily I was working on the bike til it got dark out and I was able to see the sparks...

Anyways, I am wondering where the best place to get spark plug wires are. Z1 enterprises doesn't have any spark plug wires showing up on their website. That's usually my go to. Anyone have any other places to get plug wires?

Search Dynatek spark plug wires on ebay. Look them over good, then take your pick.

Any auto store should have the wire you need - you just need 7mm high-tension cable. When I re-did mine I just bought a 2m coil for ~$15 and 4 new NGK caps for ~$20 and made a new set of 4. It's really quite easy, you just twist the cable until it's fully in, then tighten the end cap over the top.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationBe sure to purchase copper core wire. Non resistor type. Use your existing stock spark plug caps or get some new ones (NGK sells nice replacements.)

When replacing the wires on my coils I extracted the outside protective cover and installed it over the new wire. A spritz of WD-40 helped it slide over the new cable easily.

Not a single autoparts store in a 20 mile radius of me has any plug kits or parts!! wtf

Guess I'll have to buy all the parts separately online. I'll make sure to get copper core and a ngk cap.

What kind of connector do I need to fit onto the coil? The stock wires on my bike have a hole in them that slips over the connector on the coil.

If it's a standard coil, you shouldn't need anything, provided you have the end caps which twist on. To replace the wires you twist off the end cap and spacer, twist out the old cable(they're held in the coil with a little thread, like a screw). Give the surface of that thread a clean, then twist in the new cable, and secure the cable in place by sliding the spacer on and twisting the end-cap back on.

With the caps removed and no cables, your coils should look like this:

The caps and spacers are at the bottom. So you would slide the cap and spacer over the 7mm cable, twist that cable into the holes of the coil, and then tighten up the end caps. Job done.

If there are no end caps to remove and its just a wire going straight into the coil, it's likely an aftermarket coil and might not be designed to have the cables replaced.

Okay so I went ahead and bought the Dyna wire kits like was suggested because I couldn't get any kits at any local stores.

Well the Dyna kit came in and it doesn't look compatible...

I have a stock coil which has the screw caps and a little pin sticking out of it. Below is a picture of how my stock wire looks:

So as I said before, the wire has to slip into the coil. The kit came with end attachments, but both of which do not appear to be compatible with the coil:

So either I'm missing something, or I have to ask it again... where can I get spark plug wires for a 1984 GPz 550?

Those two bits are for the the spark plug, one screws on to the plug and the other clamps to the cable, then slips on top of the plug. use the dyna wires and connect up the same as the old wires, use the old spark plug caps also.

I'm wondering how the wire is supposed to attach to the coil.

What I ended up doing was shoving the pin from the old spark plug cap into the new spark plug wire. I used electrical tape to seal the dust boot on the cap.

Then I took the open end of the spark plug wire, but the old screw cap on it, and shoved it into the coil. I don't know if that's how it supposed to go on, but that's how it seemed like the stock ones were assembled. It doesn't seem very secure.

That is how it works, though you should not need any tape as the dust boots should fit snugly.
