Howdy all.

I was riding my GPz1100 when the bike started half dying on me, the tach and instrument lights all went crazy and the whole thing kinda became a mess.

My intuition tells me it's time to rebuild the wiring harness.

Does anyone have a copy of the diagram? It would really help me out a lot.

Also does anyone here offer new or the service of rebuilding these sorts of things? I think I could do it on my own but I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to just pay money for a skilled person to take care of it for me.

Thank you in advance

Here's a link to the 1100 wiring diagrams here on the site. Not sure if your model/year is in there, but there is a GPZ diagram.

I may have to try and download those on my computer later.
My phone brings me to a "forbidden" page.

Thank you

I did find a service manual for a 83 up here but I believe there were a lot of changes that year

There's a KZ1000/1100 FSM pdf available. with color wiring diagrams. It may be in the KZR Filebase.
I would charge the battery with a good motorcycle smart charger & do a load test. and also check the charging system.
The Kawasaki service manual has extensive troubleshooting instructions for the meters.

I took it off the trickle charger just before my ride. The problem started presenting itself about half an hour into it.

I managed to limp to my destination and after 2 hours it started right up and made it home without the issue presenting itself at all (15 minute highway ride)

Battery is pretty fresh but I'll consider a replacement.

My immediate thought is something for the wiring harness between the ignition switch or the kill switch is borked.

My 2nd thought is something borked up with a heat sensor or some other thing with the DFI

Check the soldering points of the wires at the bottom of the ignition switch. Heat and aging can de-solder the main power+ and switched power+.

These things in the top half are kinda lose around in the firstborn but I really didn't see any sign of corrosion.

It died on me again in my driveway. If anyone else has any suggestions they are appreciated.

Might be obvious but I’d be looking at power to the coils, and crankshaft points or pickup. Those are the only item that will kill a bike if they lose power. The power to the coils also runs thru right hand control... check the connection of the right hand control to the main harness. It should be in the headlight bucket, at least on my bikes it is.

Today I took out the ignition switch and everything inside the headligh bucket and cleaned up all the points of contact. There were a few smaller connections that seemed a little suspect, especially a small little Brown wire that connects alone into one of those single wire plugs that goes to the ignition switch.

The bike started right up and ran gloriously.
Hopefully this is the end of my issues. If not I'm going to check the coils next.

I still think it was something to do with the ignition switch because when it would die the whole gauge cluster would as well, and all lights, and I got nothing out of the starter switch/kill switch almost like how you would with the keys out.

Anyway hopefully this is the end of it. Thank you all so much

I hope so also.... not sure about your harness but brown on my kz’s is power. Its white into the fuse box a. Brown out to controls and ignition. That brown sounds the same and should be a fused 12 v

So I was (un) fortunate enough to capture my problem (which came back) on video.

EDIT: I was unable to attach video, it's in my next comment in link form.
