Hello, new to forum. if you can link me to same subject
I have a 76'kz900 18,000mi since the early 90's and its been a good bike so far. There is a wiring problem in the goose neck area. I have had the bike stop on me a couple times in the last ten years, after I stop for a while (20 mins)it works again with no flaws..
While riding last nite the front end felt a little stiff so coming into town,I stopped at the light and moved the steering back and forth to see if tire was low . 5 blocks later I rolled to a dead stop. This time there is NO electric what so ever.(weird part) has broke down in the same spot both times.
I looked at the fuse panel and white wire (main)fuse glass bubbled a little so (On the road) swapped tail light fuse(10 amp???) to see if I could get any lights on dash to go on and nothing. Trailered bike home.
Looked in the sevice manual today and says it has a fuse but not the amp size. What size fuses (3)in the panel are they? (10amp?)Nothing on the fuse either.
I'm not electric savey but know a little. Want to start at the fuses first and then going to check wiring at the neck next. Then maybe check ignition? Never messed with a meter before so I'm going to try and test stuff and get familiar.
TIA

Check ALL connections in headlight bucket ,under gas tank and all connections near fuse panel. Bet they are corroded and maybe some disconnected. I put all new connections on mine and new fuse panel (ATC ) plug in type fuses. Mine WAS doing the same thing.

Have you checked your battery?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

In some cases the melting filament in the glass body get de-solder or corroded on the metall end caps. Visualy the fuse look good but isn´t!!!
The main fuse should have 20 Ampere.

Haven't pulled the tank off in a while and found gas tank had rubbed a hole in wiring harness . Found the label for fuses .Main is 20 amp and lights are 10amp.
Contacts on 20amp were corroded, fuse had popped in the end and not in the middle. Cleaned all under the tank and fuse area.
Added spare 20A fuse too.
Retaped wires and zip tied everything back, bike fired right up.

I did keep all the original parts even though my fuse holder looked worse than yours.

Yup, that will cause some low-voltage issues at the coil and regulator. The regulator tries to compensate by raising the battery voltage too high which also shortens the life of the battery. The mini-blade type are a lot better.

yes was having that problem , burned up a batt last year.
Went over it again and found my head light got smoked.
I'm going to park it for the winter and rewire a newer fuse panel ,new LED headlight, get familiar with my multi meter and retest all my electrical.
Thanxs for all the input guys , let ya know what happens and ask more Q's.

Scirocco who’s I would have known that 2 months ago. I just installed the halogen carrier and not happy with the light output. It came with a 60/55 H4 bulb. Seams kinda dim. Not much brighter than the Stanley sealed beam
