Question please --- do the front turn signal lights also serve as running lights?

Perhaps already considered, but if you'll pardon a guess, maybe the black wire provides battery+ for the running light function.

Good Fortune! :)

If everything works then being black it's most likely an earth for the headlight bucket.
They usually plug on to a lead attached to the headlight bolt
Check the polarity with a meter but any male connector coming out of a harness should always be negative polarity on a negative earth system.

Yes to the indicators as running lights, the bike has been imported from US, I checked with a friend in PA when I got the bike & he said that was normal over there, I just blanked of that connection on the bulbs. The black 'wire' is a connector, there are 2 other wires in the bucket that I can't even find on the wiring diagram, they are not add ons, they are part of the loom ?? Like you said, if everything works why worry.

Are you saying there's a black plastic connector or a black wire w male terminal? If black plastic connector, how many wires & what color are they.

What color are the other 2 wires? If blue-white & black-yellow, those would be for accessories. blue-white is a power wire & always hot. and black-yellow is a ground.

That sorts out the W/LB & Y/B = spare, just leaves the black connector.

It should plug into a matching black connector. I'd guess the pilot box socket assy, but you should be able to figure it out by the process of elimination. Speedo. tach. pilot socket assy. LH & RH handlebar controls. etc etc etc. In the wiring diagram look for a 6-pin connector & compare the wire colors. There are various different connectors n stuff in my headlight bucket, so it's almost impossible to connect something wrong.

The KZ400.com site has wiring diagrams >> Technical tips workshop manual link.
warning: don't go into the forums as they may harm your computer.

All the connectors are matched & everything is working, can't find anything that needs that black connector.

Oops' the connector WAS from the warning lights, it was trapped by the cables in the hole at the back of the bucket.
