How to remove speedometer reset knob?

1981 KZ650-CSR w stock 85 mph speedometer & trip reset knob projecting from the side.
This is my first attempt at refurbishing a meter & I need to remove the trip reset knob.
Tried prying it off, but it seems stuck & I don't want to break the thing. doh.

Thanks. I considered using a heat gun, but thought it prudent to wait for some replies. hee. The thing seems very stuck, so I don't think spoons are going to work. but after some heat, who knows. we'll see & I'll let you know.

The ones I've dealt with you have to turn backwards for it to unscrew. Fine thread so lots of turns.

What years or type were those and was the knob sticking out the side or the bottom?
The 70s style meters are different from the one in the pic.

I haven't done one of those. I'd just try and turn it backwards and see if it unscrews.

I tried that earlier today, but it didn't unscrew & it didn't feel right either. While turning, there would be some resistance, then the resistance would change to a smooth notchy feel, then repeat. kind of hard to explain. It just didn't feel right unscrewing it.

Thanks. The knob does unscrew backwards in the opposite direction as resetting the trip meter:
The speedometer has to be separated first >> then use pliers to hold the shaft while unscrewing the knob.

Thanks. I've been looking for that how-to. hee. I thought I had a link to it saved in a word file, but I couldn't find it. Now I realize I had those pics saved on imgur. doh. could have saved myself some trouble. :laugh:
