1981 KZ750 LTD - need key help
26 Dec 2018 16:01
I have a 1981 KZ750 LTD that was bought with this switch in the picture on it. I dont have a key, and im trying to get a key for the seat lock. It needs a new battery to see if it will run.
I dont want to buy a switch until i know the bike will run. Can anyone get me a key from the numbers on this switch? Or tell me who to contact about getting a key.

A good locksmith should be able to make a key from the code. Also, there are keys available on eebbaayy.
Key blank that may work >>> Ilco KA14 X103. It has the same shape as the Kaw keys in the pic.
It's what I'm currently using. your ignition switch should be the same as mine.

I'd hot wire it to see if it will run.

He said he needs a new battery to see if it will run, so a key is still needed.

That switch looks trashed.

I'd guess he's planning on hot wiring it to start it or fab up some sort of simple start switch. or perhaps the old switch is still functional by turning it with a screwdriver or something. ???

For test starting purposes, can use any automotive type 12 volt battery to temporarily provide power to the coil primaries .
Important to disconnect battery power when not engaging the electric starter or not actively kick starting or when the engine isn't running. In other words, leave battery power connected only when engaging the electric starter or actively kick starting or when the engine is running.
Good Fortune!

That's what I did to see if my 650 would start. old battery removed since it was old & shot. jumper cables connected to the mc battery leads & to the car battery (car engine off, car keys in pocket). start motorcycle. just make for darn sure you don't reverse the polarity. I would guess this would be one of the easier ways to mess that up.

It won't physically go into the seat lock or it just won't unlock it?
