1977 Kz650c troubles was created by Ireland 0722
About 3 months ago I bought my KZ650 and new I had my work cut out for me but it was running. Just very irregularly. By that I mean you'd kick it 20 times and it would start or it wouldn't start at all or it would start on the second kit. The original owner decided he wanted a cafe racer so he did all the wrongs things to get to that point. He hack sawed-off pipes. He tried to do a barebones wiring harness but it was just a spaghetti Mess I got new pipes and I installed them that was no problem. I took that the old harness and installed a new one. I'm going to post the schematic. Great diagram it's just the fact that it's still not starting. I have it down to barebones as in chicks start no push button starter headlight in key ignition and that's basically it. It does have a dyna s ignition and coils. I have tested everything up including the coils but not the electronic ignition. And I do have spark I checked but no start not even wanting to start. Please help. I live in Sierra Vista Arizona by the way if anybody lives even remotely close and can help

That was a picture of the brake switch. Not sure if it works. Actually could care less at this point. If it's not starting the breaks are a non issue

This is supposed to be my daily driver. My only transportation to work. I've worked on it now for about 10 days in a row 527 hours a day finally I got their bones wiring done and still nothing. Kind of wishing I would have bought a Honda as they seem to be a bit easier to work on LOL

I doubt if a Honda or any other bike would be easier to work on if the same previous owner had butchered the bike and the wiring like he did to your KZ650. Ed

Yes true. Today I did get it to start. My throttle cable snapped near the handle. Is there a way to repair. Also how do I change it

Have you cleaned the carbs , checked the valve clearance or done any other maintenance . All the info is here to do all that stuff . You just have to search .Do you have a manual . Think you can download one from here .

Yes I have done the maintenance. The other night I got it to pop off. I haven't been so lucky in days. Also. Starting with a full battery. Trying to kick start for less than 5 minutes and the battery is half dead. That's without the headlight connected
