That is what I am worried about.TexasKZ: There seems to be no mica at all between the segments. Won't that be a problem ? It appears to be a lot more than the 0.2mm maximum allowed by Kawasaki.

That would be my first choice too Dave! especially on this old Kaw.
I was just now looking for a OEM stator cover gasket (that Rotella T-6 synthetic is hard to contain), and one popped on eBay on my google search for $11.XX + change, but then after looking at the eBay listing, they wanted $19.95 freight. Ya right. Um.. I can buy one at the local dealer for ~16 bucks over the counter right here in river city .
I did a separate eBay search on the OEM 11061-1082 generator cover gasket, and one for $8.XX bucks popped with >free shipping<, located in Illinois also (close). everyone needs to be careful making eBay purchases, some of the sellers want more for the shipping than the part costs at full retail and my local stealership.
eBay is your friend.

M_a_t_t wrote: I ended up just buying a used starter from cyclesrus.com, put it in and it turned over. Wouldn't start though, sprayed some ether and got it to start. Once it was warm it would turn off and restart, but I think I need a new starter clutch. I keep getting a clunk/grinding noise every once in awhile.
The starter clutch in the back of the alternator rotor comes loose and rattles. Mine didn't completely fall apart, but I could hear a noticeable rattle on the left side of the engine. Now might me a dandy time to go ahead and pull the rotor and either clean and loc-tite the bolts on the clutch before it also fails or replace whatever might be worn or missing / broken Matt.
It attaches to the 3 holes on the back of the rotor.

I use to use Babbits but for some reason they changed their site and nothing listed pre-1985.
