KZ550 switchgear was created by Dirtystroker
Hi all, I'm a relative newbie in this forum, so wanted to say a quick hello and ask a technical question if possible :silly: i am in the (long winded) process of trying to tidy up my kz550 and it's only been 3 years so far :woohoo:

I am having trouble trying to source switchgear and tried to renovate my originals, but they are too far gone. I have found a pair of pattern switches, but they have a headlight on/off switch, whereas my model does not have the option. I take it my lights are meant to be on all the time? Is it possible to wire these switches into my loom and get them to work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks
Barry

It can be done with little work. Pics of the originals?

I did the same thing with my bike. I think lights on permanently, is an American thing. On/Off is a European thing. The easiest way to do it is to find a European electrical schematic for your bike and an American one. You can then work it all out on paper first before you go pulling apart your loom.

You don't say what year the bike is, but have you checked ebay? It seems there are all kinds of controls for sale.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Hi all, many thanks for the replies. I'm hoping there will be a way to use the switches that isnt too taxing - i'm not the best with electrics :)

My bike is an A1 KZ550 (so 79/80 ish i think). I have attached some images of my originals and some images of the pattern switches. I believe they are Z900 replica switches, but it says they can be fitted to Z400/750 models, so i'm hoping if i can find a wiring diagram to match the switches, i should be able to make them work with the corresponding wires on my original loom?

Cheers
Barry

Can you show a pic of the insides? I bought a left hand unit and the horn is faulty. Every aftermarket Tach, Speedo, Petcock among other things just don't have the quality.
