KZ Starters - Early 2-Brush vs. 4-Brush - Can I Convert? was created by NakedFun
Guys,
So I have a early 2-Brush starter in my KZ900. I know I can take the later model KZ1100 4-Brush model starter and bolts right in, no mods what so ever. So since I was planning on rebuilding my starter, the question is can I order a 4-brush rebuild plate/kit and slot it into my 2-brush starter? Anyone know this? Otherwise I will just order a 2-brush rebuild kit....

I would say no, different commutator (coil and spacing) on the rotor.

I agree that maybe a problem with the commutator design, but I noticed that the brush spacing on the 2 brush design is 90 degrees apart, and the 4 brush has two pairs set 90 degrees apart. So trying to remember when I used to play with electric motors and modify them as a kid..... anyway may just buy the 2 brush kit.
