75'-78' kz400 stop light flashing was created by adelucia75
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so apologies if I stumble through this post. I have been doing work to my 70's model kz400 and I've recently added an LED tail light strip to my back frame loop. It works great except the stop light on my spedo is flashing when the bike is on. I tied the LED wire directly into the original wiring harness. Any ideas as to why it's flashing. Also, I have installed a new LED flasher relay if anyone was going to ask.

Okay, i try to explain this with my less English knowledge

Your LED stop light need less current = 2 - 5 Watts
A stock stop light has 21 Watts and need more current
In the main wiring harness under the tank is a connector with a so called "Brake Light Failure Indicator Switch"
He controls the current flow if your stop light bulb is okay (as a resistor in the weiring circuit)..
If the bulb of the stop light is shot he will let flashing the stop light failure indicator light when you switch the ignition on.
A LED is a diode and has no resistance like a resistor and has less,(or no current flow if not in use) current flow.. The Brake Light Failure Indicator Switch indicate a bulb failure. and act like a turn signal flasher relay now to show you your bulb is shot.

this will be very helpful information. Thank you. I'm wondering now if you actually have pictures of what the brake light failure indicator switch actually looks like and what to do once i locate it.

Get the full part number at Partzilla, then check it on eebbaayy. There may be one or two listed.

Partzilla -->> OEM -->> Kawasaki -->> motorcycle parts -->> year -->> model -->> chassis electrical equipment

Note: the brake light failure indicator switch is a safety feature & lets you know if the brake light is not working. possibly keeping you from getting rear-ended.
