KZ650 Not Charging / Help

I recently acquired a 1977 KZ650 in beautiful condition to replace the one I bought new in 77 that I sold a couple years later to get married (mistake should have kept the bike and lost the wife, one of only a couple bad decisions in my life).
This bike looks , and runs outstanding, a pleasure to ride. A couple days ago went to fire it up and the battery was dead. Charged to full charge, and cranked right up no worries, until I decided to hook up a volt gauge, and only 12..2 volts,,,, battery voltage so not charging.
RPM made no difference, just not charging.
Any advise on where to start to trouble shoot this issue. Any help would be appreciated!

Easy task. Just follow the troubleshooting and repair instructions in the 1977 KZ650 Kawasaki Service Manual. Do NOT use later manuals since the 1977 charging system is different than all other years. Check the rectifier first; then the regulator; they seem to fail in that order. You should buy the manual since that makes all tasks easier, but until you do use the one KZRIDER provides at:

Thank you,, I will study up on the system then run some tests.

Tested the Stators and all good, so replaced the Rectifier- Regulator with a unit from Oregon Motorcycle parts, and now charging at correct levels.
