82 KZ750-LTD cable to starter switch

My wife bought me an 82 K750-H3 (LTD) from a tow yard (abandoned) as a project to become my next bike. Looks like the previous owner had started some resto/custom/race work already, but was in the very, very early stages and a lot of what remains is pretty rough. I definitely have my work cut out for me.

The electrical is in shambles and so I decided to start by pulling the electrical system out to take measurements and order replacement parts. The handlebars have been replaced, but not all of the components yet. I started by trying to remove the starter switch. It had not been put back on the handlebars yet and appeared to be just hanging on by a cable with three connectors to the power center of the bike down near the battery box.

I say appeared because after I separated the connectors which met to the rest of the spinal cord of the bike under the gas tank near the front edge of the seat, I found the switch to still be connected to the bike via a cable that runs from the switch on the handlebars to a point in between two carbs at the top of the carbs.

I haven't opened the switch housing yet, but it seems to be "hardwired" into the switch housing. What's the deal here?!? How is that supposed to work?!?

Much thanks for your expertise!

Stock, the handlebar control wiring probably should terminate inside the headlight bucket. If the harnesses are off the bike, I would lay them out & try to match up the various connectors. photos might be helpful.

Partzilla has diagrams, but some of the drawings are missing for your bike, so you'll have to try the earlier models, usually the 80 750-H1. eebbaayy photos can be useful, especially if a nos part is listed so you can see what new should look like. 46091-1121

Manual. 1980-84 KZ750-4. 1983-85 ZX750. 750turbo.com --- Index . currently unavailable.
yellow/gold cover w color wiring diagrams.->> GPz750 Base Manual.pdf. good scans.
The one that says full english is a cruddy, photo-copied version.

Wiring diagrams. mbsween. bike-night. KZ750L3 . Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.
the site has wiring diagrams & the poorly copied manual.
Note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links: the 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4.

I owe you guys an apology. I jumped right into trying to pull the electric components from the bike before getting my service manual printed and reading through the Electrical section. I tried using lazy-web to figure out my problem when I really should have just read the manual. Or as the case turned out, talked to my neighbor who has a few bikes of his own and tinkers with them in his garage.

The cable I described was the throttle cable and the piece on the handlebars the right switch housing. :whistle:
