81 kz750 front brake switch?
29 Apr 2017 08:50
Not sure if the is the correct forum but looking at the pictures below I can't seem to find the front brake light switch. So that got me wondering if this is the correct MC for my kz750H

That is not the stock mc. It should be a large rectangular mc w a leaky cap.
From the clymer manual.

That master cylinder appears to be from an earlier model KZ. Assuming that is the case, it will not have any accommodation for a front brake switch. This is because the early dual front disk KZ models, such as mt 1977 KZ650-C1, had the brake light switch for the front brake built into the brake line splitter (see arrow in image below). Ed

Thanks to both of you. It's a shame because the MC is in really good shape but I have to have a front brake light switch. That splitter looks like it's built into the bottom triple tree. I think it would be easier to get a new MC that has the built in switch.
Don't fix it until it's broken.

It isn't. It is simply bolted to it with the two bolts shown here. Ed

The mounting holes on that brake line splitter probably don't line up with the 750H brake joint mounting holes.

That's probably true. If so, a small adapter plate could be made to mount the splitter. Ed

The 750H also has a fork cover emblem.
If he could add that brake light switch in Scirocco's reply, then that might be the simplest thing to do.

I wish I'd seen this before I ordered a new MC. I have a new one on the way with the switch built in. That banjo bolt switch would have been great mounted on the splitter.

Did you order one with an angled mount? Your current mc is for standard type handlebars.

Not sure what you mean about angled mount. The one I ordered looks a lot like the one that should be on my bike. I'm not really concerned as I hate the handle bars that are on it now. Kinda high rise buck horn style. I have a few other bars from previous projects or I can buy new bars when I see what style I like.
But I have no problem keeping the new MC for a different project and using the banjo bolt switch on this bike. I'm not in a hurry to finish this bike anyway. I own 4 other motorcycles so the biggest problem I have is deciding which one to ride!
I got this bike for free and so far have less than $100 in it. I've already rebuilt the rear brakes and have just cleaned and flushed the front calipers. Cleaned and fixed leaking overflow tubes in the carbs and have them installed, with new float needles. and synced. Bike runs good now!
