Howdy all,

I'm the new guy on the forum. I've found a lot of good info here!! I own a 1976 KZ900B and have had it for a few years. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but have always been a little scared to tear into this bike. I'm learning a bit at a time. I just purchased the green Dyna coils for it and was wondering what size and type of plug wire that is recommended for them? It already has the Dyna ignition that was installed before I purchased it, but has stock coils. I tried a search of the site, but couldn't find an answer. Not saying it's not there...I'm apparently just a little blind. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the info Steve. I'm assuming a solid core wire?

Would first try keeping the built-in non-resistor caps. If radio interference is an issue, can then use the stock resistor caps.

Good Fortune! :)

Thank you too Patton. I wasn't sure if there is benefit in regards to using 8mm vs 7mm or if the new coil needed a specific type of wire. I'm looking forward to see if they make a difference.

In my opinion there's no advantage to the fatter 8mm plug wires other than perhaps some esthetic preference.

Am not positive but thinking that the 8mm might need shaving down to fit into the coil.

Probably get varying opinions about 7mm vs 8mm, but I think the vast majority continue fitting the stock 7mm wires.

Besides, the 8mm wires (at least those from Z1E) are suppression core, which might be desirable in some instances to provide resistance in the secondary loop instead of resistor caps or resistor plugs, but don't have the service life of solid core plug wires.

In any event, new plug wires of whatever style will likely be a vast improvement over the old hard cracked worn-out original plug wires that are probably leaking high tension voltage.

Good Fortune! :)

7mm solid core it is then. The stock wires are a little hard...should have replaced them way before now. Thanks for the info!! I'm sure that I'll have more questions as I go along. Much appreciated!!

Does your bike have points ignition?

I received my coils and installed them with no problems. I found a plug that wasn't being used that I assume was from the old points setup and another plug with something like a relay plugged into the end. I took a couple of photos that I'll attempt to post to see if anyone can identify them for me. Also...I'm trying to find blue spark plug wire and found some that Taylor makes called solid core TCW that I assume is what I need, but their website says that solid core is not compatible with electronic ignitions. As I previously posted, I have the Dyna S and want to make sure that I get compatible wire. Anyone have any experience with this wire? The bike is blue, so I'm trying to spruce it up a bit. Thanks again!!

That relay is for the stop lamp warning light. The blue wires will work with the Dyna S. Pic of the wires on that 4 pin connector?
