Sending unit
10 Mar 2017 18:14
Hey just wondering if someone could shed some light here. I have an 81 kz550 with a gauge cluster from an 82 gpz550 which has a fuel gauge. If I'm thinking correctly these two bikes have the same tank design but I'm having trouble locating any pictures of where the sending unit would be in the gpz tank as well as any sending units for sale. I'm curious if I could retrofit one into my tank without too much hassle. Thanks for any info I appreciate it.

Take a look at the link below. It shows the fuel tank parts diagram for the 1982 GPZ550. Ed

hello jramsey89
a very very, quick reply
Sending units needs an extra opening and mounting points under the fuel tank, you need the right tank to go that way.
trust me i cleaned a rusty zr7 tank with phosphoric acid for a friend, the sending unit was totally blocked by the rust
This manuals may help you .

Hey, Ed. That helps. I see that the tanks are different indeed. Not sure when they changed in comparison to model year but either way I think it will be more trouble than it's worth trying to add a sending unit to my tank. Thanks a lot.

PS evaporust has done a good job for me on tanks and more. Plus reusable and nonvolatile.
