Hi guys, on my kz550, when I give it a blast out, the tacho needle starts to bounce up and down a bit, seen on tube vids of 550's doing the same thing, is it a common problem? Oh only after 5000 rpm

Could use a little history on the bike. Did this just start but was working fine before? I just bought an 83 KZ1100 that had been sitting for a year or so. When I first started riding it the tach would bounce all over the place. After a week or less it settled down and is working fine now.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

The bike had been sitting in the desert in new Mexico for years before it was imported into the UK, when I restored it, the tacho has done about 800 miles since the rebuild, and the needle still bounces around after 5000 rpm, I never stripped the tacho down just sprayed a little lube into it and refit ?

ride it for a few weeks before you decide to replace it. Mine bounced between 2500 and 5000 so it was in that range more often than yours. maybe that's why it started working fine more quickly.

Don't fix it until it's broken.
