81 Kz750 Ignition spark
15 Aug 2016 14:04 - 15 Aug 2016 14:13
Hey guys, wiring in my MotoGadget M-unit. Got the bike to turn on and turn over. Getting great spark too! The bike came with Dyna ign. coils from the PO. When I turn the key switch off i get a small little spark out of the plugs. Is this ok? Normal? Should I be concerned about leaving it this way?
Also, off of the rectifier is a single lead connector. Mine is white, but I think the OEM ones came white with red tracer. I see on the diagrams this just goes back to the + battery terminal. Does anyone know what the reasoning for this is?
Thanks

It's normal to get a spark when the switch turns off. The built up charge in the coil will discharge at that moment. Without a pic, I can't tell you about the R/R.

If it has a stock electronic ignition, it is not normal to get spark when turning the key off. The coils don't get charged until the crank is turning. This can indicate a problem with the igniter.
It might be normal if you have a Dyna S ignition. You said you have Dyna coils, so maybe someone installed a Dyna S ignition as well.

Dyna S does that. Other brands of aftermarket ignition may too.

Awesome. Thanks guys. It does have the full Dyna setup. Ignition and coils. I figured out where to put the plug coming off the R/R. It traces back and plugs into the starter solenoid. Thanks!!!
