Which wire harness to buy? was created by Hamman
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHey guys. Just picked up a 1981 kz750 (4). Bike came with no wire harness. I've been doing some reading trying to decide what years and models may work for me. On eBay there are a ton of 81-82 spectre harnesses and a few KZ harnesses. On partzilla.com it says the 81-83 all use the same harness. The bike has some goodies on it already, Vance and Hines exhaust, dyna ignition and a radial master cylinder. Does any one if this harness will work!? Thank you all and can't wait to start contributing. ;)

Is the bike a 750E standard or 750H Ltd?

CycleChaos.com has frame number & engine number info for many Kawasakis.
Zedder.com is another place, but you have to buy the software to get all of the available info.

The wire harness you linked is probably a close match, if not the same. you'll want as close a match as possible, although it may not matter too much. The 750E & 750 Ltd are probably very similar. The other 750-4 models probably aren't that much different either, but a close match would make it easier as the meters can be wired differently & maybe some other stuff. The ignition systems & charging systems are pretty much identical, as are some of the other electrics.

1980-84 KZ750-4. 1983-85 ZX750. pdf manual. good scans.

Wiring diagrams. mbsween. bike-night. KZ750L3 . Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.
Note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links: the 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4.

Awesome man thank you!!! This info will help immensely. Looks like a lot of good reading. I'm out of town now but will go over the bike better one home. Not sure either but the Seats on the bike are super thin and dual, not a long solo style. I haven't seen anything like them online. So they may have just been recovered and cut. So do you think a harness from a spectre would work? I just need the basics really. Thanks again!!!!

Yes, most likely. but I would compare the wiring diagrams if possible or some of the electrical components, such as the ignition switch & handlebar switches. some might suggest making your own wiring harness, but that can be a lot of work.

Awesome, I'll be sure to check out the wiring in the switches when I get back home. There are quit a few nice harnesses from spectres on eBay for dirt cheap. Thanks again for all your help!
