Test spark by cranking by hand?
30 Jun 2016 15:05
Working on the ignition system on my build and would very much like to save my battery by not constantly turning over the starter motor to test the spark. Will I get spark if I turn it over by hand?
I have a '81 kz550-c3, with pickup coils and an IC ignitor.

Better just sweep past either pick up with a screwdriver or similar, this is sufficient to fire the IC ignitor.

One of the manuals in my signature describe the screwdriver trick. It works pretty reliably.
