Electric Tach

What year did Kawasaki start using electric tachs? I returned my new tach for exchange but they sent me a speedo instead. The one they just sent me is wagging again but I'll send the one on the bike and keep this one if it's OK. I'll tell them I want my money back for the tach and buy a electric one to upgrade my old one. I've lost confidence in these aftermarket tachs and speedo's.
Been looking at some on eBay.

I think 1981. the 1000-J1 for example. I checked a number of big Kaws from 1980 & they all had a tachometer cable.

Been thinking of going with gpz750 cams but hate the idea of having to switch out the tach for a electronic one to fit them. Will follow this and interested on seeing how it works out for you and others.

The gauges were going for $415. I won the set for $275 + tax. I thought I was getting a good deal. Would have been better off buying from eBay and putting the internals in my housings. When they offered to give my money back I should have taken it.

If they give me my money back I'll go with this one. Has some spare parts I can use too and it looks like the screw holes are in the same place as my new face plate.
